Varna University of Management is the only Bulgarian university in the Top 50 for EU authors of scientific publications in the field of tourism, and the Vice Rector (Research) Prof. Stanislav Ivanov is among the most productive authors of articles in Scopus indexed editions in the period 1998-2017.

This is the result of a study by Dr. Jose Ramón Cardona of the University of Balearic Islands and Assoc. Prof. Maria Dolores Sanchez-Fernandez of the University of Coruna, which aims to carry out a bibliometric analysis to determine the state of tourism research in the European Union. The study explores articles in specialized academic journals published between 1998 and 2017 and indexed in Scopus.

The top 50 of the most productive authors include researchers from 37 universities from 13 countries in the European Union. The presence of a Varna University of Management in the study is another proof of the university’s contribution to the development of research in the field of tourism.

VUM Research Institute issues internationally recognized science journals such as European Journal of Tourism Research (EJTR), Journal of Pedagogy and Educational Management and VUM Management Review. According to Scopus, EJTR is among the highest ranked European journals in the field of tourism research. EJTR is indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. As of 1 st June 2019, EJTR is an open access journal and all readers may freely download, share and distribute the papers from the website of the academic journal.
