The INTERSMARTS Project has been awarded the Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Innovation and Technology Transfer “EXCELLENT IDEA 2025”, held in the Republic of Moldova. The project’s Innovation Management Platforminnoplatform.intersmarts.eu – impressed the jury with its innovative approach to training, knowledge-sharing, and resource integration for the development of sustainable tourism and the promotion of the blue economy.

The project aims to improve sustainability and the adoption of innovations in tourism and related sectors through interdisciplinary research, networking, co-creation, and comprehensive knowledge generation. Officially launched in June 2024 and running until December 2025, INTERSMARTS has already established an interdisciplinary network for smart tourism and services, bringing together experts in sustainable infrastructure and resource management, pollution control and waste management, seasonality solutions, and technology transfer and innovation.

A key outcome of the project is the creation of the Innovation Management Platform, which provides a database of new solutions and technological achievements, alongside idea generation and crowdsourcing features, demonstrating how the sustainability of tourism sites can be significantly enhanced.

The International Exhibition of Innovation and Technology Transfer in the Republic of Moldova represents an important step in promoting innovation and strengthening the research ecosystem, acting as a catalyst for turning creative ideas into successful achievements. Further, the project will also be presented at the Black Sea CMA Stakeholder Conference 2025, scheduled for October 2025 in Constanta, Romania.

The project consortium is led by the Varna University of Management (Bulgaria) and includes the International Hellenic University (Greece), the Moldova State University (Republic of Moldova), and the Istanbul Development Agency (Turkey). Project BSB00332 “Interdisciplinary Solutions for Smart Sustainable Tourism and Services for Blue Growth in the Black Sea Basin” (INTERSMARTS) is implemented with the financial support of the INTERREG NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme 2021–2027.
