Nigel Jones is a lecturer in Information system in the Cardiff School of Management. After many years in the NHS as a programmer/analyst, and patient services systems manager, Nigel returned to study business education with qualified teacher status at UWE. He joined the University in 2000 from teaching in Aberdare College where he was teaching Information Communication Technology and held the role of Cross College Coordinator for Information Learning Technology (ILT).
After many years as a system analyst and project manager in the NHS, Nigel teaches system analysis tools and medical informatics, using real life examples. Nigel was presented in 2014 with a Student-Led Fellowship, which is intended to recognise excellence in teaching. He was made a senior fellow of the Higher Education academy in 2015, and previously in 2010 Nigel was awarded the honor of being made a Teaching and Research Fellow of UWIC for his work into student feedback using screen capture video files; this is one of the closest virtual tools to the student and lecturer sitting side by side while marking, enabling the lecturer to provide a very rich personalised form of feedback. With other members of staff in 2015 he explored screen capture as a means to enhance the exam feedback to account’s students and as part of the submission from the students for programming assessments.
He is currently also a Link Tutor at VUM. The role of the Faculty Link Tutor is to oversee and coordinate academic liaison between VUM and Cardiff Metropolitan University.
