As part of the Tourism Intermediaries module, students had the opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice through an interactive simulation. They were divided into two groups – tourists and travel agents. The tourists provided their individual travel preferences, while the travel agents were responsible for selecting and offering the most suitable package tours based on their clients’ requirements, budgets, and specific interests.

What made this exercise even more valuable was that the package tours offered were entirely created by the students themselves. While designing their products, they had to consider key principles of tour planning, pricing, and distribution, as well as the legal and regulatory frameworks governing tour operators and travel agencies.

Key competencies and knowledge areas covered in the session:

Designing and structuring package tours – selecting destinations, tourism services, and balancing price and quality;

Understanding the tourism distribution chain – the role of tour operators, travel agents, and hotel partnerships;

Hotel channel management – how tourism products reach the final consumer;

Legal and regulatory considerations – contracts, consumer rights, and compliance;

Customer needs analysis – creating tailored travel experiences that align with market demands.

This hands-on session allowed students to gain a realistic perspective on the challenges of tourism intermediation, applying strategic thinking, communication skills, and creativity in a professional setting.
