Students from the Corporate Social Responsibility module at Varna University of Management had the opportunity to visit Bistro Academica – a place that merges social entrepreneurship with sustainable business practices. Academica is not just a dining establishment but a model for integrating individuals with limited access to the labor market by providing them with training and employment opportunities in a real working environment.
During the visit, students gained insight into the bistro’s mission, which focuses on creating job opportunities for people with different abilities, as well as the challenges that come with social entrepreneurship. Academica not only offers healthy and sustainably prepared food but also exemplifies how businesses can engage with causes that drive meaningful social change.
Students had the chance to discuss key aspects of corporate social responsibility with the bistro’s team, particularly regarding the integration of people with disabilities into the workforce, the necessity of a personalized approach, and the importance of long-term support for their professional development.
We extend our gratitude to lecturer Ireene Leoncio for her initiative, which allowed students to witness a real-life example of corporate social responsibility in action. Our appreciation also goes to the team at Bistro Academica for their hospitality and for sharing their valuable experience.
