With excitement and pride, Varna University of Management (VUM) formally inaugurated the Academic Year 2024/2025. The event, held on 7th October 2024, brought together faculty members, students, and esteemed guests to celebrate the commencement of a new academic year filled with inspiration and positive anticipation.
An Exciting Programme and Distinguished Guests
The event commenced at 16:00 with a welcome drink provided by the Culinary Arts Institute of VUM.
The ceremony was hosted by Ivana Dimitrova, a third-year student majoring in International Business and Management. The official proceedings began with inspiring words from the Rector of VUM, Prof. Dr. Krasimira Staneva, who welcomed the new students and wished them a successful and inspiring year, emphasising the importance of hard work and personal development.
Following this, host Ivana Dimitrova acknowledged our distinguished guests—Mr Ivan Tabakov, Chairman of the Varna Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Mrs Elena Kenarova from the Directorate for Education and Youth Activities. A significant highlight of the event was when Ivana read an official letter from the Mayor of Varna, Mr Blagomir Kozev. In his message, he expressed:
“Hours before the opening of the new academic year, I wish to extend my wishes for health, audacity, and fulfilment! Varna is part of the global world and the continent most dedicated to science—Europe. Our city has the unique opportunity to compete not just with other cities but with the champions of the world, contributing to the growth of humanity.”
“I encourage you to continue seeking answers to the questions on which science and humanity still grapple, to challenge the boundaries of knowledge, and to boldly venture beyond them! I thank you for your efforts in establishing Varna as a city of high academic education in the fields of administration, economics, tourism, and modern technologies! Your ambition is a powerful engine for the city, as democracy, economic success, and progress are born from the competition of spirit and free minds.”
“You can count on our support from both the Municipality of Varna and personally from me as Mayor. This support will be a constant throughout my term, as you hold in your hands the most powerful tools to change the world for the better—science, education, and spirit. Good luck! We take pride in you and in the contributions of Varna University of Management!”

A particularly exciting moment occurred when Dilyan Georgiev, a second-year student, symbolically passed the “torch” to the first-year students, sharing:
“You have a unique opportunity to learn from the best. Do not miss your chance to develop and fight for your dreams.”
After the ceremony, the university photographer captured special moments at the photo corner created specifically for the new academic year 2024/2025.
Celebratory Cocktail and Development Opportunities
The celebration continued with an official cocktail at the restaurant of the Culinary Arts Institute, where guests enjoyed exquisite dishes and a unique atmosphere. The Institute is the only one in Bulgaria offering higher education in culinary arts and gastronomy. Students receive two diplomas—one from VUM and one from Cardiff Metropolitan University. This means that our students obtain a British diploma, recognised internationally, which contributes to their professional development and competitiveness in the job market.
We sincerely thank all who participated in the opening day! We eagerly anticipate a successful and inspiring year filled with new knowledge, experiences, and achievements! Let us together make the academic year 2024/2025 unforgettable!
