On April 12, the final of the pilot training in the Black Sea hub for experiential tourism at Varna University of Management was officially set.
We remind you that the training started in December 2021, and its main topic was the development of entrepreneurial skills and the development of a tourism product in the field of experiential tourism with a focus on culture and historical heritage. At weekly meetings, the young participants in the training, together with the experts of the Hub, initially worked on individual projects, which later merged into one common idea – Karia Events Marathon. In early March, the Hub team even paid a visit to the venue, where they met with representatives of the local community and discussed ideas and opportunities for holding such an event.
Karia Events Marathon is planned as a three-day event in and around the village of Krapets, which combines music (mixes between folklore and modern motifs), sports, creative workshops, seaside experiences (diving, fishing), culinary temptations and a farmers’ market. The aim of the event is to bring together different audiences, who together, through the various experiences included in the program, to get to know, understand and love the local culture, history and traditions. The name was also not chosen by chance – “Karia” is one of the oldest names in this place, which means “cornerstone” and refers to the concept of geography “nose”.
It was this conceptual project that was presented by the young entrepreneurs at the final event of the training. Representatives of various organizations and institutions active in the development of tourism, culture and youth entrepreneurship were invited to the event. Among the guests and participants of the event were representatives of the Tourist Information Center in Varna, the Regional Information Center – Varna, Alliance Française de Varna, Junior Achievement – Bulgaria and Varna Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They shared ideas and presented information about various opportunities that would help implement the Karia Events Marathon.
The Black Sea hub for experiential tourism was established on the territory of Varna University of Management – Varna within the PRO EXTOUR project. The main goal of the Hub is to become a place where representatives of business, science, culture and youth meet and together develop and develop tourism products aimed at promoting local culture and historical heritage. The project is a joint initiative of three universities with established traditions and experience in applied research in the field of tourism – Varna University of Management (Bulgaria), Yerevan State University (Armenia) and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), a network of organizations in the field of culture – the Georgian Center for Arts and Culture (Georgia) and a regional cluster for hospitality – Association for Culinary Arts and Hospitality (Bulgaria).
