Master of International Hospitality and Tourism Management

This course has been designed to meet the needs of tourism industry managers, executives and other professionals.

The International Hospitality and Tourism Management (IHTM) students study a synchronized curriculum with Cardiff Metropolitan University and have to meet the same high standards in examinations.

DOUBLE DEGREE

Bulgarian Master Degree in Management of the International Hospitality and Tourism from Varna University of Management and British Master of Science Degree (MSc) in Management of the International Hospitality and Tourism from Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK (Note: you complete your studies at VUM Bulgaria).

LECTURERS

The lecturers team is consisted of VUM lecturers approved by the British academic partner Cardiff Metropolitan University (Cardiff Met), along with guest speakers from the UK. The contents of all examinations passed through the prior approval of the Quality Committee of Cardiff Met. VUM students receive their user names and passwords in order to access the free educational materials in the beginning of each academic year. The online information access connects them with enlarge basis of global electronic database containing the necessary books, materials and research articles. All teaching methods and resources are entirely tied with the academic partner of VUM – Cardiff Mett.

VUM is very active in the field of tourism research and social sciences. Therefore the university issues European Journal of Tourism Research. The Journal provides a platform for discussion of theoretical and empirical problems in tourism and hospitality sector. The journal has been included in some of the most famous information platforms such as: SCOPUS, ProQuest and EBSCO databases.

The elective modules and the second foreign language module are offered when requested by a certain number of students.

EU CITIZENS / BULGARIAN NATIONALS

Bachelor Degree Qualification

The prospect student needs to have successfully obtained his bachelor degree from an officially accredited university in Bulgaria or abroad, which is recognized in the order required by the National Education Act, article 5 and has obtained minimum 180 ECTS number of credit. The applicant is required to have achieved average mark “good” or 60% from their bachelor’s studies; Note: if still studying his Bachelor degree at an official statement from the university is required. Relevant Management experience and professional or another additional qualification are considered as competitive advantage.

English Language Skills

English is the language of instruction, therefore prospective students have to demonstrate English language skills through an internationally recognized English Language Certificate (IELTS, Pearsons,​​​Trinity College London, Cambridge En​g​lish Advanced).
VUM entrance test follows the structure of Cambridge English: Business Vantage. The tests normally include some higher level tasks from Business Higher to test the listening, reading, writing and speaking skills of postgraduate candidates and some lower level tasks from Business Preliminary for the students applying for a bachelor degree programme.
The Business Vantage level (Grade B – from 174 to 180 on the Cambridge scale) is aligned to the B2 level of the Common European Framework. Grade B, which is the minimum level accepted for admission to the bachelor and the master degree programmes at VUM, falls between bands 6 and 6.5 of IELTS (band 6 corresponds to 169 -175 on the Cambridge scale).
The Cambridge Business test components and structure are much the same as the IELTS Academic test format, measuring the four main skills at a comparable level of difficulty and at the same time it focuses on business-related language.

VUM entrance test is conducted at the premises of VUM and invigilated by a VUM instructor. Prospective students may try an on-line test before arriving at VUM. Regardless of the online test results, candidates are subject to an entrance test conducted at the premises of VUM.
Note: upon an insufficient level or lack of English language skills, the prospect student can enrol in a preparatory English language course at VUM

INTERNATIONAL - NON-EU CITIZENS

High School Qualification along with a Bachelor Degree Diploma

The prospect student needs to have successfully obtained secondary education from an officially recognized secondary school (high school with average mark of 62% from the general subjects) along with successful completion of a Bachelor degree programme with minimum number of ECTS credit 180. Note: if still studying his Bachelor degree at an official statement from the university is required. Relevant management experience and professional or another additional qualification are considered as competitive advantage;

VUM campuses in Varna and Sofia. All accepted students are going to be enrolled as full-time students. Classes are scheduled on Thursday and Friday evenings (from 18:00 – 21:00h) and on Saturdays (09:00-16:00h), which allows them to carry out their professional duties while studying.

STARTING DATE: Classes of each new academic year starts in the beginning of October.

DURATION

3 semesters within the period of one calendar year to graduate with a British degree.
4 semesters within the period of one calendar year and four months, for students who had obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in a different field of science.
