The Department for Modern Educational Methods which is part of Varna University of Management aims at promoting excellence in education and training.

DMEM has experience in designing and implementing a range of innovative and practical training courses designed for school leaders and teachers in the form of Master Classes with a corresponding number of credits. The pedagogical methods we use are based on learning based on experience, exchange of experience and best practices in education.

We offer courses on the following topics: creative teaching and creative development; managerial competence of the teacher; skills for problem-based education; development of soft skills; skills for public speaking and presentation; conflict management skills at school; patterns of mediation of school conflicts; stress management; time and career management; building a professional image in the field of education; non-formal education; development of entrepreneurship and school leadership; a culture of achievement at school; CLIL and didactics of language teaching; integration of ICT in teaching; e-learning and web design; effective school and business management; inclusive education and prevention of early school leaving, etc.

SOFT SKILLS FOR EDUCATORS

MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The overall aim of this course is to stimulate excellence in education by supporting teachers, managers and other educational staff to improve their soft skills with experienced trainers. The course provides an opportunity for the participants to exchange effective practices and gain experience in the field of management of teams, multicultural environment, leadership, crisis and conflict management, public speaking and communication, meeting management, mediation and negotiations.

Through this course the participants will be able to:

  • develop a soft skills knowledge system and exercise a variety of methodological tools for teamwork and team management, conflict management, meeting management, public speaking and communication, etc.;
  • improve their participation by practicing soft skills through group exercises;
  • address different case studies in an international context related to collaboration and learning by improving their ability to communicate in English and teamwork in a multicultural environment;
  • improve their competence for career development and the development of programs with personal success prospects;
  • exchange best practices and share experiences with participants coming from all over Europe;
  • make contact with individuals and organizations working in the field of education in Europe through networking and team building;
  • will visit and liaise with Bulgarian institutions.

Daily Programme

  • Introduction to the course.
  • Brainstorming and team building.
  • Expert assessment of the competencies. Presenting a personal story of the success.
  • Building a model of a successful person. Creating a soft skills system.
  • Theory and exercises for building teams in an educational environment.
  • Guided visit in Varna and traditional Bulgarian dinner (optional).
  • Leadership styles and team roles.
  • Motivating participants for team teaching.
  • Theory of team teaching in a multicultural environment.
  • Practical exercises to identify soft skills in team teaching: building a team according to project work; designing an educational project, presenting the project.
  • Discussion on the soft skills identified by the participants.
  • Theory of conflict management in an educational environment.
  • Practical group exercises and simulation for conflict management in the school environment. System of soft skills in a crisis situation in relationships.
  • Mediation model, negotiation techniques.
  • Basic public speaking skills: communication and learning styles: How to plan public speech - design and effective performance.
  • Practical group work and exercises for self-assessment of soft skills in communicative genres used to manage meetings and events in school.
  • Visit to a local school and brainstorming with its relevant staff (upon availability).
  • Discussion of future cooperation and planning follow up activities.
  • Validation of learning outcomes.
  • Releasing of official course certifications.
  • Course evaluation.

BUILDING A SYSTEM OF SKILLS FOR TEAM TEACHING

Main Objectives of the course

The overall aim of this course is to stimulate excellence in education by supporting teachers, managers and other educational staff to improve their team teaching skills with experienced trainers. The course provides an opportunity for the participants to exchange effective practices and gain experience in the field of teaching teams, leadership, classroom management, lesson management, public speaking and communication, multicultural environment, etc.

There are evidences based on researches that suggest a number of benefits to students and the institutions that engage in team teaching. Collaborative teaching can provide students with more perspectives and content knowledge than a single teacher can do.

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand the theory of team-teaching
  • Examine configurations of team-teaching
  • Explore the impact of team-teaching on schools, teachers and students
  • Acquire the knowledge and skills to plan, deliver and evaluate team-teaching at a whole-school, subject department and classroom level
  • develop and evaluate a system of skills for team teaching
  • exchange best practices and share experiences with participants coming from all over Europe;
  • make contact with individuals and organizations working in the field of education in Europe through networking and team building;
  • will visit and liaise with Bulgarian institutions.

Daily Programme

  • Icebreakers and team building.
  • Introduction to the course. Motivating the participants: Why is it necessary to teach in teams at school today?
  • Expert assessment of competences for team teaching.
  • Building a system of skills for team teaching. Group discussion.
  • Self-assessment of own strengths and weaknesses of team teaching skills.
  • Guided visit in Varna and traditional Bulgarian dinner (optional).
  • Theory of building teaching teams. Configurations according to the purpose of the lesson and the age specifics of the learners.
  • Exercises to create a teaching team.
  • Planning a lesson for team teaching.
  • Practical exercises for planning and designing an educational project by the team teaching staff.
  • Classroom management in team teaching. Adoption of educational design models according to the objectives of the educational project and the number of participants in the team teaching.
  • Teaching as an organized event. Basic organizational skills of the teaching staff.
  • Theory of team teaching in a multicultural environment.
  • Practical exercises for multicultural team teaching: team presentation on a project lesson named “Our common history”.
  • Watching a video footage from the team presentation of an educational project. Recognition of the system of skills for team teaching in the video. Discussion.
  • Self-assessment of the skills for participating in team teaching.
  • Basic skills for public speaking of the teaching team: topic selection, convincing speech, contradiction in order to motivate, adding the information, conflict demonstration, discussion and controversy skills, etc.
  • Practical group work and exercises for self-assessment of public speaking skills of the teaching team.
  • Observation of team teaching and evaluation of a teaching team in a Bulgarian language school
  • Discussion of future cooperation and planning follow up activities.
  • Validation of learning outcomes.
  • Releasing of official course certifications.
  • Course evaluation.

Location:

The course will take place in Varna.
Varna is the third largest city of Bulgaria. It is a major tourist destination and a center for business and education. The city is easily accessible by air, sea, rail and road from other parts of Europe. Varna is known as the Marine capital of Bulgaria due to the large number of tourist destinations and beach resorts along its Black Sea coast that draw large numbers of visitors from all over Europe.

Certification

At the end of the course, each participant will be awarded with a certificate of attendance. The Europass Mobility Certificate will be issued upon request of the sending organisation.

The staff of each educational organization is eligible to receive an Erasmus+ grant covering all the costs including travel, accommodation, cultural activities, etc.
