Hospitality Management

The degree in Hotel management has more than 20-years of history. Hundreds of graduates have entered the hospitality industry in Bulgaria and over 50 other countries around the globe.

Besides a bachelor’s degree from Varna University of Management the graduates of this course obtain a second diploma BA (Hons) in International Hospitality Management from our partner Cardiff Metropolitan University. VUM takes 1st place for student internships in the field of tourism, according to the academic ratings of Ministry of Education in Bulgaria in 2015.

The “Hotel Management” programme is accredited by the Bulgarian National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency in the academic field of “Administration and Management”.

During the fifth semester of their education, students should select 3 out of 5 disciplines for their specialised modules:

High School Qualification

The prospect student needs to have successfully obtained secondary education from an officially recognized secondary school (high school) in Bulgaria or High School Diploma from an officially recognized secondary (high) school from another country, which is recognized in the order required by the National Education Act, article 5; Note: if still studying at a secondary (high) school, preliminary application is possible.

English Language Skills

English is the language of instruction, therefore prospective students have to demonstrate English language skills through an internationally recognized English Language Certificate (IELTS, Pearsons,​​​Trinity College London, Cambridge En​g​lish Advanced).
VUM entrance test follows the structure of Cambridge English: Business Vantage. The tests normally include some higher level tasks from Business Higher to test the listening, reading, writing and speaking skills of postgraduate candidates and some lower level tasks from Business Preliminary for the students applying for a bachelor degree programme.
The Business Vantage level (Grade B – from 174 to 180 on the Cambridge scale) is aligned to the B2 level of the Common European Framework. Grade B, which is the minimum level accepted for admission to the bachelor and the master degree programmes at VUM, falls between bands 6 and 6.5 of IELTS (band 6 corresponds to 169 -175 on the Cambridge scale).
The Cambridge Business test components and structure are much the same as the IELTS Academic test format, measuring the four main skills at a comparable level of difficulty and at the same time it focuses on business-related language.

VUM entrance test is conducted at the premises of VUM and invigilated by a VUM instructor. Prospective students may try an on-line test before arriving at VUM. Regardless of the online test results, candidates are subject to an entrance test conducted at the premises of VUM.
Note: upon an insufficient level or lack of English language skills, the prospect student can enroll in a preparatory English language course at VUM.

All accepted students are going to be enrolled as full-time students.

Classes for Varna and Sofia campus are scheduled from Monday to Wednesday (inclusive) from 9:00 to 14:00. Practical sessions will be set on the other days of the week on a pre-planned schedule that will be provided to the students.

Tuition Fee: 1950 Euro per semester

Duration of study: 6-8 semesters

The Hotel Management programme is designed to provide a wide array of skills and knowledge, which are necessary for every manager in the field of tourism.

Graduates of hospitality management degree program can find work as Front desk managers, Housekeeping managers, Restaurant managers, etc. or in a wide variety of other hospitality industry careers. Managers in the hospitality industry use their skills in business, human resources and customer service to coordinate staff members and give guests an excellent experience.

After graduation our graduates take up employment opportunities in official tourist organisations, transportation companies, hotels, tour operating and travel agency companies, government and other organisations where knowledge of tourism management is important.

All students in this programme have two obligatory internships during their education. These internships last minimum 2 months, maximum 3-4 months and take place in tourist organizations, a high class hotel chains, tour operators and tourist agencies.


DOUBLE DEGREE OPTIONS*:

  1. Bulgarian Professional/Academic Bachelor Degree in “Hotel Management”, issued by Varna University of Management and British Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA(Hons)) in “International Hospitality Management”, issued by Cardiff Metropolitan University, UK.
    Note: you study all three years at VUM Bulgaria.
  2. If a student prior to their third year of studies chooses to relocate to Business and Hotel Management School, Switzerland they can receive upon graduation a Bulgarian Bachelor Degree in Hotel Management from VUM and a Swiss Diploma in Hotel management diploma from Business and Hotel Management School, Switzerland.
    VUM students are subject to special terms and rates at VUM’s partner universities.
