Business Information Systems

The main objective of this course is to equip our students with the knowledge and skills required at developing and using computer systems and software modelling methods for solving business problems and managerial decision-making.

We teach our students the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of information technologies (IT) and computer skills, as well as of techniques for business processes modelling, for development and application of complex solutions related to the computer systems and corporate information services. The course is focused on the practical application of calculations technology for business problems solutions.

The “Business Information Systems” programme is accredited by the Bulgarian National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency in the academic field of “Economics”.

During the fourth and fifth semester students should select 1 out of 3/4 from the following specialised modules:

  • Networks & Internet Security
  • Database Security
The elective modules and the second foreign language module are offered when requested by a certain number of students.

EU CITIZENS / BULGARIAN NATIONALS

High School Qualification

The prospect student needs to have successfully obtained secondary education from an officially recognized secondary school (high school) in Bulgaria or High School Diploma from an officially recognized secondary (high) school from another country, which is recognized in the order required by the National Education Act, article 5; Note: if still studying at a secondary (high) school, preliminary application is possible;

English Language Skills

English is the language of instruction, wherefore the prospect student needs to demonstrate English language skills through an internationally recognized English Language Certificate (TOEFL IBT, SAT, IELTS or similar). The Minimum scores are as follows: TOEFL IBT with score of min. 79 points; SAT over 1000 points from two sections; IELTS 6.0(or equivalent score from another testing system) Note: if there is no such certificate, the prospect student can hold an English language exam organized by VUM in-house or online - minimum score: 60%. Note: upon an insufficient level or lack of English language skills, the prospect student can enrol in a preparatory English language course at VUM or opt for an additional language module.

INTERNATIONAL - NON-EU CITIZENS 

High School Qualification

The prospect student needs to have successfully obtained secondary education from an officially recognized secondary school (high school with average mark of 62% from the general subjects; Note: if still studying at a secondary (high) school preliminary application is possible;

English Language Skills

English is the language of instruction, wherefore the prospect student needs to demonstrate English language skills through an internationally recognized English Language Certificate (TOEFL IBT, SAT, IELTS or similar). The minimum scores are as follows: TOEFL IBT with score of min. 79 points; SAT over 1000 points from two sections; IELTS 6.0(or equivalent score from another testing system); Prospect students whose native language or language of instruction at school is English, are exempt from the English Language Skills requirement. Note: if no certificate, the prospect student can hold an English language exam organized by VUM in-house or online. Note: upon an insufficient level of lack of English language skills, the prospect student can enrol in a preparatory English language course at VUM or opt for additional language module.

All accepted students are going to be enrolled as full-time students.

Classes for Varna and Sofia campus are scheduled on evening times during the week (from 18:00 – 21:00h) and on Saturdays (09:00-16:00h), which allows students to work while studying and to carry out their professional duties.

Tuition Fee: 1950 Euro per semester

Duration of study: 6-8 semesters

Graduating BIS, VUM students enjoy very good opportunities for professional realization as managers or consultants in the IT departments of many public, trades, financial or non-economic organizations. They are qualified to occupy positions in every computerized information system, which are a substantial function of every modern organization.

All students in this programme have two mandatory internships during their education. These internships last minimum 2 months, maximum 3-4 months and take place in specialized IT departments in international companies of different business, world-wide.
