Д-р Мая Иванова е доцент по Туризъм във Висше училище по мениджмънт и сертифициран IATA/UFTAA инструктор. Тя работи като асистент редактор към European Journal of Tourism Research и има над 20 публикации относно хотелски вериги, въздушен транспорт, управление на дестинацията, устойчивост, споделена икономика. Интересите й включват туроператорска дейност и посредници в туризма, авиация, хотелски вериги и хотелски мениджмънт. С повече от 10 години професионален опит като туроператор, д-р Иванова успешно обучава професионалисти и студенти в сферата на маркетинг и мениджмънт на туристически агенции, обслужване на клиенти в туристически агенции, организиране на събития, маркетинг в хотелиерството. През 2015 г. доц. д-р Иванова бе лектор на най-голямото събитие за професионалисти в сферата туризма в България – Travel Academy.
Заедно с проф. Станислав Иванов и доц. д-р Винсент Манини от Virginia Tech University, тя е редактор на Routledge Handbook of Hotel Chain Management.
