VUM was the first university in Central and Eastern Europe to introduce contemporary Culinary Arts Education 8 years ago. Now, VUM is giving its Culinary Studies a fresh start, new unique concept, new premises, brand new internships programmes and a team of world-class professionals through introducing Culinary Arts Institute and its accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality and Culinary Arts.

The Hospitality and Culinary Arts programme is offered in the professional settlement of Culinary Arts Institute at VUM. The programme is the only one in Eastern Europe that allows acquisition of higher education (full-time studies) in the field of hospitality and culinary arts, combining theoretical and practical training.

Internships in Michelin Star restaurants

An interesting fact is that 95% of the students from the September Intake 2017 in Hospitality and Culinary Arts are going to Michelin Star restaurants, 15% of them will receive experience from Michelin restaurants with 3 stars. This study programme gives students the opportunity to work with some of the best chefs in the world, to acquire valuable experience in high-categorised restaurants, as well as to work in Michelin Star restaurants. The internships (up to 12 months during the education period) are provided with the support of VUM’s Career Center, which could offer the students Michelin internships in countries such as France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Denmark and others.

After successful completion of the studies, you will be awarded Bachelors Hospitality and Culinary Arts Degree Varna University of Management and a British Degree BA (Hons) Hospitality Management awarded by Cardiff Metropolitan University.

European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a standard for comparing the study attainment and performance of students across the European Union and other collaborating European countries. Students may transfer their ECTS credits from one university to another so they are added up to contribute to an individual’s degree program or training.

Placement Opportunities

The placements are integral part of our programmes. Students must go on two placements administrate our Career Center. options with total duration

Placement plan for September intake Students:

  • up to 7 months in the First Year of studies from March to September
  • up to 5 months in the Third Year June to October

Placement plan for February intake Students:

  • up to 7 months in the Second Year of studies from March to September
  • up to 5 months in the Third Year June to October

* Students must comply to the minimum language required by the Career Center.

** Students can not go on internship if they have more than two outstanding academic modules.

*** Placements assignation of each student is based on academic and practical performance outcomes from the kitchen modules, decided by the Chef Instructors.

EU CITIZENS / BULGARIAN NATIONALS

High School Qualification

The prospect student needs to have successfully obtained secondary education from an officially recognized secondary school (high school) in Bulgaria or High School Diploma from an officially recognized secondary (high) school from another country, which is recognized in the order required by the National Education Act, article 5; Note: if still studying at a secondary (high) school, preliminary application is possible;

English Language Skills

English is the language of instruction, therefore prospective students have to demonstrate English language skills through an internationally recognized English Language Certificate (IELTS, Pearsons,​​​Trinity College London, Cambridge En​g​lish Advanced).
VUM entrance test follows the structure of Cambridge English: Business Vantage. The tests normally include some higher level tasks from Business Higher to test the listening, reading, writing and speaking skills of postgraduate candidates and some lower level tasks from Business Preliminary for the students applying for a bachelor degree programme.
The Business Vantage level (Grade B – from 174 to 180 on the Cambridge scale) is aligned to the B2 level of the Common European Framework. Grade B, which is the minimum level accepted for admission to the bachelor and the master degree programmes at VUM, falls between bands 6 and 6.5 of IELTS (band 6 corresponds to 169 -175 on the Cambridge scale).
The Cambridge Business test components and structure are much the same as the IELTS Academic test format, measuring the four main skills at a comparable level of difficulty and at the same time it focuses on business-related language.

VUM entrance test is conducted at the premises of VUM and invigilated by a VUM instructor. Prospective students may try an on-line test before arriving at VUM. Regardless of the online test results, candidates are subject to an entrance test conducted at the premises of VUM.
Note: upon an insufficient level or lack of English language skills, the prospect student can enrol in a preparatory English language course at VUM
